Frequently asked questions
- How is reading time calculated?
- We count the words in your text and divide by a default assumption of 225 words per minute, which you can change with the slider. Words are space-separated runs containing a letter or number; the Characters figure counts visible characters, so an emoji counts as one.
- Can I change the words-per-minute speed?
- Yes. Use the slider to set anything from a slow 100 wpm to a fast 400 wpm to match your audience.
- Is this useful for blog posts and articles?
- Yes. Writers and editors use estimated reading time to set reader expectations on blog posts, newsletters and long-form articles.
- Is the tool free?
- Yes, 100% free and client-side. Your text never leaves your browser.
